The first thing you should do is to decide how long you are going to play this game.

Advice for players of every level:

  • Spend your gold and skill books on any champion. You can always reset them for free as often as you like.
  • Star with a team of 5, eventually working up to 3 teams of 5.
  • Don't upgrade any champion with rarity of Rare or less past 4 stars.
  • Traits are the most useful indicator of the strength of a champion. Also % bonus traits are far better than flat bonus traits.
  • Join the official discord to see lots of great recommendations on tier lists, answers from moderators, and more.

For players just trying it out (spend less than 1 month in the game):

  • Spending gems exclusively on summons is a strong approach. If you are active you might try to chase the Challenge's leaderboard (just don't get the summoning value packs)
  • The things that will be most fun are gaining mythic champions and competing in the challenges each week.
  • Summoning will be the fastest way to gain a spread of mythic champions (approx. 1 mythic per 8k gems). You gain gems very quickly early on.

For players who are committing to spending multiple months playing the game:

  • You need a mix of summoning and producing mythic heirs. The longer you will play the game the more worthwhile it is to invest in companions.
  • The companion value packs (599 gems) give you ~350 Intimacy each. If you are active, it's reasonable to get 700-1200 gems/day. See the section on companions below.
  • Wait to spend your bouquets until you have companions at Mythic.

Best guesses for player's who want to spend over a year in the game:

  • You will want to do a little summoning just to get a basic team put together. Shoot for a team of 3-5.
  • Wait to spend your bouquets until you have companions at max intimacy (for level 22 traits).
  • Then focus heavily on companions. See the companion section.

Your first priority is to get the 3 1 star companions to Mythic.

Some would say that Sallyhorn is more valuable than Travain. I am agnostic on that point.

After you get the 3 1 star companions to Mythic, you can get the rest of your main team companions to mythic or max traits.

It doesn't matter which companion you choose to upgrade after your one star companions are up to Mythic.

I did rate Yivnian as A because Yivnian is an excellent M and F, and they are better at Leadership than Sallyhorn.

Companion Strategy

Things to know about companions:

  • The lower the stars of a companion the more valuable it is. This is because the wait time on producing heirs is lower, and the faster you can raise intimacy.
  • You can only be an ancestor one time in each champions family tree.
  • This means that if you produce an heir, they, nor their children, can marry any of your other heirs.
  • The levels of % gain traits are the biggest indicators of combat potential. Companion intimacy is the easiest way to get upgraded traits.
  • As you increase intimacy past Mythic tier, you will begin to gain higher level traits, up to level 22.
  • It is fairly accepted that getting the 3 1 star companions to Mythic is your first priority.
  • There is substantial debate around whether it is more valuable to get 1 companion to Max Traits, or to get all of your main team companions to mythic.
  • Personally, I lean towards getting one of your main team companion to max traits, because it will make investments in them much more effective.

Spending Resources

This is not designed to be a comprehensive list, nor is it the end-all-be-all. There is flexibility in this game and decisions on how to spend resources when, as in any strategy game. Hopefully this guide takes away some fear/uncertainty for new players, and provides ideas for veteran players.

  • Gold: Trade-off. You can upgrade your champions as you go, or save up for the might challenge.
  • Food: Trade-off. You can spend as you get it for a gold boost, or you can wait for the district challenge.
  • Gems: Numerous options. Personally I focus on companion intimacy value packs. See New Players Start Here.
  • Skill Books: Spend at will. Fully refundable on reset. Minor power boost.
  • Ingredients for banquets: No point in waiting afaik.
  • Gold Chests: You get these a lot. If you are struggling to pass a key campaign stage (for example opening a new district or unlocking the a challenge fund tier), spending some gold chests will help you increase your team's power. If not, the best time to play this is during the might challenge. Also, be sure to make any available upgrades to your districts that you want to.
  • Arena Tickets: These are more uncommon, and should always be saved for the arena challenge.
  • Charm items: Spend only during the Charm challenge. Spread out evenly between companions for district boost.
  • Intimacy items: Spend only during the Intimacy challenge. Focus on 1 star companions intially (see Companion Section).
  • Interrogation Scrolls: Use them at will.
  • Energy Potions (Heir): Generally save these for Heir challenge and for late game when you will be producing 3 star mythics.
  • Vigor Potions (Carouse): Trade-off. Spend them early to gain a competitive boost to your gold. Spend them late to get substantially more gold per potion.
  • Stamina Potions (Expedition): Can provide a minor power boost to your might. There are occassional events where you need to obtain champions of various classes at specific low-star levels. These potions would be very effective at that time. Also late game, once the Hall of Fame starts filling, there will occassionally be quests in there for doing X expeditions. These potions are much rarer late game.
  • Wedding Rings: Late late late late game. In my opinion these are one of the most precious resources and should be used sparingly before you start getting level 22 traits.
  • Equipment tokens: Plentiful. If you upgrade a common piece of equipment, then feed it to rare equipment, all that leveling will pass on.
  • Senate Orders: You get a lot of these. My strategy is to use on food early on, then equipment after my power reaches 240 million for a chance at mythic armor. I may decide to just always pull food.

Interrogations

While you are collecting, you will occassionally come across an enemy for your followers to pursue. If they catch up to the enemy they will capture them, where they go to your dungeon.

In the dungeon you can interrogate them, gaining either 20 or 30 influence depending on if you choose the "right" option.

Once you reach 300 (for 1 star champions), 500 (for 2 star champions), or 1000 (for 3 star champions) you can recruit them, where they will join your champions as a common.

In my opinion, this and exploration are the best sources of commons in the game, which are useful when marrying.

Don't spend gems on opening cells, you will open all 5 within a couple weeks.

Also, spend the interrogation scrolls liberally. You will be overrun with them.

Other Info

Some other useful tidbits of information:

  • If you have a lower rarity champion that you have ascended past 5 stars, you can raise it's rarity (aka turn a common into a mythic) by feeding it a mythic copy.
  • When you raise the champion's rarity, the clan trait will increase in level, but none of the other traits will. If increasing rarity increases it's number of traits (e.g. going from common to legendary you go from 1 trait to 4), the new traits will be at the new rarity's level.
  • Challenges rotate on a schedule. They last 4 days and rotate between Might -> Arena & Heir -> Charm & Districts -> Intimacy -> Might -> ... and so on. Generally you want to save the resources associated with those challenges for those challenges (for example don't spend arena tickets except during the arena event).
  • Once you reach 48 million power, legendary equipment becomes available for drops from Senate.
  • Once you reach 240 million power, mythic equipment becomes available for drops from Senate.
